HP+ and subscription ink explained
Engineering preview: usable draft patterns, not a physically validated release. See validation limits.
HP+ and HP Instant Ink are separate programs. This summary uses US official sources accessed on 2026-10-03. Exact eligibility, prices and cancellation rules depend on your country, plan, model and any supplemental terms; open the local terms before acting.
1. What Instant Ink is
Instant Ink is a subscription supply service with plan charges based on pages, rather than a purchase price for each shipped cartridge. An eligible enrolled printer, HP account and ongoing internet connection are part of the checked US terms. A subscription supply can be disabled without being physically empty.

2. HP+ and Instant Ink differ
| Program | What it is | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| HP+ | A feature/requirements package embedded in an eligible activated printer, rather than the ink subscription itself. | The checked US ink-printer FAQ requires an HP account, internet and Original HP Ink for the printer’s lifetime after activation. |
| Instant Ink | A separate subscription with a page plan, account billing and subscription supplies. | Cancelling the subscription does not by itself undo activated HP+ requirements. HP+ users can instead buy matching Original HP retail supplies. |

3. Before cancelling
The checked US monthly terms place cancellation at the end of the current month period. Simply removing cartridges, not printing or disconnecting the internet does not cancel billing. Confirm your own account’s effective date and final amount.
The US FAQ says Instant Ink subscription cartridges stop working after the cancellation billing cycle. Have compatible retail replacements ready. The US terms include a possible exception for certain converted in-box cartridges; ask HP about that exact supply rather than assuming every included cartridge behaves identically.
Save the confirmation and consult the local return/recycling instructions. Different yearly, business, promotional or supplemental plans can have different rules; this page does not promise their cancellation dates.

4. Check your own printer and region
Find the complete model number and whether HP+ was activated in setup/account records. A model suffix alone is not confirmation of your activation or a universal supply policy.
Open the exact model’s specification/manual and your local HP+ or Instant Ink terms. The US FAQ reports that Instant Ink is not offered everywhere; eligibility requires a supported location and model.
If the documentation cannot settle a region, firmware or cartridge message, contact local HP support. No other country’s availability, price or policy has been verified by this US summary.

5. Compare with your actual monthly printing
This is a decision aid, not a savings claim. Use current local prices and your own page history; no fixed price, plan size or discount is assumed.
| Your printing | What to compare |
|---|---|
| Very little or long gaps | Compare ongoing subscription fees in months with few pages against compatible retail supplies. Also check storage/maintenance needs. |
| Stable monthly volume | Compare the current plan fee plus tax/possible extra pages with retail supply cost over the same period. |
| Large month-to-month changes | Review rollover limits, extra-page charges and when plan changes take effect. Do not count unused pages as cash savings. |
| Internet or subscription is unsuitable | Check whether the exact printer and activated programs permit the retail/offline setup you need before choosing supplies or a device. |

Before you print again
Does requesting a print mean it printed?
No. The browser can request a dialog, but cannot tell whether you cancelled, sent the job or received paper. Check the preview and the physical result.
Why are there two paper sizes?
Each PDF has a native Letter or A4 page box. Choose the same size in the printer dialog, use Actual size / 100%, and disable headers, footers and Fit to page.
Can this sheet diagnose my printer?
It is a comparison aid. A generic sheet cannot identify a failed part, measure ink remaining, certify colors or replace the manufacturer's model-specific checks.
